Did you ask why?
Yes. They sais my question in regards to co-investment was inappropriate.
Yes, they said it was inappropriate for me to ask about coinvestment. Isn't that a question anyone would ask?
I don't know these people, but co-investments are appropriate in some firms. Not sure at what level of seniority though.
It is a bit weird to ding a candidate they wanted to hire just because of one question.
There is absolutely nothing inappropriate about asking if juniors can con-invest in deals.
This is very poor form on their part. I am sorry to hear this happened to you. Was this process facilitated by a recruiter? If so, I hope you've given them your full story (although it won't really make a difference).
I suspect they either got cold feet around bringing on another junior so quickly or someone else they preferred suddenly came back into the mix. Either way, very poor form on their part. If it was me, I'd probably keep an eye out for new additions to their team page, etc. just to see if suspicions are correct. Won't make a difference, but something I'd probably do just for some sense of closure.
You dodged a bullet, IMO. Don't want to work for a firm that acts that way
I agree so much with this. This was my first thought. Imagine moving out there then getting fired for bs or realizing the culture is absurd.
My .02 is that there was something else going on because that's a weird question to get rescinded over.
They all emailed me how excited they were to welcome me to the team on Friday and on Saturday rescinded my offer.
Exactly... that's weird. Makes me think there was something else that factored in.
You should be glad, your life would have most likely been an absolute living hell there with this level of unreasonableness.
hr prolly pulled their headcount at the last minute and they were scrambling to find a reason for you
Co-invest an inappropriate topic? That is one of the craziest things I've ever heard, If anything it shows you understand the industry and have a good level of commitment to the firm even before showing up. You dodged a bullet on this one, sounds like some hellish bucket shop.
Yeah man I agree, i feel like it's a pretty normal thing to ask about, specially considering my current employer allows for profit share in deals. These guys literally re-traded on my offer, after they know I was already planning my move to them.
Knew*
So I've emailed them a few times now and no one has responded ro me. I just want a genuine answer because I am angry. Can i get in trouble / would you advise me against calling them? Or at this point I'd assume there's nothing to lose?
If you feel like you connected with one of your interviewers specifically, maybe try to call them? At this point though, there isn't much you can do. I know you're angry (hell it didn't happen to me and I am), but there really isn't anything you can do about it at this point. Best thing you can do is have a stellar career and put yourself in a position to fuck them later on in life. I may or may not have invited a banker into a bake-off fully intending on shitting on him one time. It's a small world, be nice.
You should post the name of the group to put them on blast. That is absolutely psychotic that they would rescind an offer for asking a fair question. F them.
I'll think on it
plz do would love to shit on them
I'll be honest - I went into this post expecting you to have done or said something ridiculous and have been completely oblivious to it. I was wrong. I'll be honest man, you are getting this a lot in this thread, but this team sucks. Big time. You DID dodge a bullet. This sucks that it happened, BUT, do you want to spend the next 2/3 years working for such an unprofessional group?
Does it suck you lost yourPEoffer? Yes. Will you get another one? I have full confidence since you just got one at this shop. Head up. It's a long career man, don't let a few weeks / months in search of another offer get you down - go crush it
By the way just to piggy back on this comment, which is 100% true, you should tell other firms you're recruiting at this story too. The fact that you got an offer from another shop will make you look incrementally more appealing.
Assholes like them need to be openly torched. This industry needs someone to start openly calling this kind of shit out. Name names.
That is a perfectly acceptable question to ask, not only is it perfectly acceptable but I would expect it to be asked. If people who want to work with me aren't asking questions like this I would be asking myself if they are just using this position as a short term doormat to a better job.
If you want I will call these assholes and rip them a new one. Chances are I know people who invest in their shop. By know I mean can influence.
Unfortunately I am gainfully employed by a firm that I really enjoy working for and have too much to lose in getting into a pissing match with the recruiter andMMshop. I definitely agree with you though, I have never experienced something so unprofessional and, (albeit this adjective being a bit severe) unscrupulous in all my history of recruiting. I also take my career very seriously and this could have ended up really bad had i accelerated actions with my current firm.
Appreciate the offer and would really love to see you rip them a new one
ay bro can we make it a four way conference call?
On the one hand, it definitely sucks to go through a tough interview process and have your offer ripped away from you. But, like most people said, if they pulled your offer with such a lack of integrity, certainly believe they could have randomly fired you down the road.
It's obvious your question was not the actual reason the offer was pulled and I am surprised the recruiter did not tell you the reason off the record.
This reminds me of a friend who went through like 15 interviews and a massive case study for a mega fund and was told the offer was imminent. Then a few days later he hears that the team and MD he would be working for had a huge dust up with another MD and quit or was fired. And just like that his 7 figure offer was torched through no fault of his own. Don't waste any more time trying to obsess over the real reason.
Congrats, you dodged a bullet my friend!
thats so odd. how did you phrase the question? assuming it wasn't rude or something, I'm guessing there was another, "real" reason for rescinding the offer
The likely scenario was someone else definitively accepted the offer before me, even though they agreed to give me until Monday and knew that I was accepting / figuring out logistics.
ya that sucks. offer deadlines are short so that they don't have to give multiple offers at once (i.e. "we need to know in x days so that we can give the offer to someone else if you don't accept").
sorry dude. but if this is how they ran their recruiting process, the place probs sucks
显然他们雇佣了别人他们真正想要的or were unable to meet hiring needs for you. Either ways not your fault and sounds like they decided to blame you for asking about co-invests (which is might be reaching but IMO is totally not inappropriate by any measure, especially if it's just a question). They are losers and leave them far behind in your thoughts. Bright side is it probably would've been worse if you joined them lol.
