Did I fuck up my chances with this last round interview?
EDIT: Didn't get the internship.Director told me it was "very close" and couldn't give me actual feedback on my application as "everything went fine but we had to make a choice". He also said he'd forward my CV around. Don't know how much of that is true or just what they're supposed to say, but I guess I'll keep applying.
Hi! I'm stressed as hell right now, because I think I might've blown my chances with this desk I applied to recently. I applied for aBBequity derivatives tradingexecution (so, S&T) internship and went through all the rounds lightning fast, from this Monday to this Friday morning. Here's how it went:
- Monday: interview with the junior on the desk, went super well and I could feel we had a good interaction.
- Wednesday: Interview with the Director goes really well too, he likes what I have to say about the markets and tells me "I can see you're knowledgeable" and other good stuff. At the end he says he'll contact me again by the end of the week to set up an interview with his senior if I'm to go to the next round.
- Thursday: I get an email in the morning confirming I can do the interview with the head of execution.
- Friday: Interview with the head of execution in the morning, and that's where I might have fucked up.
Simply put, I was very stressed out during the interview andI think I blew it. He didn't seem impressed with my answers, I was slurring some words and visibly searching for answers sometimes, and when he asked me about a strenght and weakness I gave a good response for the strenght (attention to detail, with proof from past experience) and I just went blank for the weakness.. So I said that sometimes I get stressed out when talking to senior management but that I'm working on it.What a terrible fucking response. He had an empathetic smile but I know that not showing confidence can be a deal breaker for these people. I'm also pretty sure he wasn't impressed with my response to "What can you add to the team?".
A few positives though, I guess: he asked me when I'd be available to start, he liked my answer to a couple of markets related questions and overall seemed to not be bored out of his mind.
He finished by saying they'd have to go through a couple more candidates and then would update me on who gets the job next week.
I'm honestly devastated asI feel like I completely broke under the pressure, when I had no problem containing it for the junior and the Director.
I feel like the only redeeming thing here is that I would work with the first two on a daily basis, and much less with this guy. Therefore, when they all discuss candidates, I hope the other two have good things to say about me.
I come from non target, have had an extremely difficult time with interviews and finally thought this would be my chance. What do you think? Did I truly fuck up my chances there, or am I being dramatic?

Happens man, even if you don't get it just be sure to never make the same mistake again and prepare for those common behaviorals better next time.
Comes with experience. I mean we've all messed up an interview one time or another, but during those moments you need to be at your best. Best of luck on the internship.

Not knowing the answer to your biggest weakness question is a misstep. You arrived unprepared. You should always have a few answers in your pocket like the list below:

You're absolutely right. The worst thing is that I spent over 25 hours this week preparing for all kinds of technicals and behaviorals because I knew I didn't want to be caught off guard on任何东西.
I made a strategic mistake by preparing for interview questions the week of, instead of being prepared far in advance.
I made a poor decision not preparing for one of the most asked questions ever, the strength/weakness one.
As others have put it on the thread so far, it'll serve as a learning experience for my future interviews. I will update you all with regards to my application!

100% if he asked you about strengths and weaknesses he wasn't into the interview to begin with given how useless that question is. Regardless, yes, your answer was weak. But I'm hoping that he brushed off the answer you gave given it was likely a flippant question on his behalf. If you got a lot of the actual important questions down, then it's possible you'll be just fine and shouldn't worry.
I don't know, I think the 'gets stressed when speaking to senior management' is kind of endearing if you play it off somewhat humorously. The question is kinda stupid anyways you just don't want to genuinely answer with a serious weakness. Everyone gets stressed with senior management and it's not a big deal. You don't always have to be stone cold serious during the interview and a hint of humor actually does show confidence.
