Not your responsibility?

What do you do when you boss asks you to do something that's their job? The posture and make all the big decisions then ask you to explain why the feel the way the feel?

I don't want this to come off as I'm not being a team player, but sometimes the "grunt work" gets passed off when I have more important things to be working on.

Are you serious?

YOUR JOB IS TO DO THE WORK THEY DONT WANT TO DO.

This is why millennials, or whatever generation this represents. Why would you pass on work to your boss? The answer is you wouldn't. They pass off work to you, grunt work goes down the chain not up.

If there is another questions that I didn't get from the post, let me know. But, why does every 25 year old think they know enough torun Blackstone.

Incase it gets deleted, here is the original post:

Hah, there's a good chance OP's boss is a millennial in their 40s and OP is a zoomer at this point

Aren't you hoping to step into your boss' shoes one day? I look for assignments that my boss is comfortable handing off to me. Shows that he trusts you and gives you a chance to shine i.e. move up in the company.

If you asked how do you handle a boss asking for you to run their personal errands, that's justifiable. But if it's work-related....that's what you're getting paid to do...

OP your job is to make your boss's job easier. You do that well enough and your boss gets promoted and either has your back when it comes for your own promotion/raise or gives you a badass recommendation to your next company. I am quite literally hiring someone right now whose entire job will be "things I don't want to do." If I wanted to do them, I wouldn't need to pay money to get someone else to.

I probably understand where OP is coming from as I am probably in the similar situation. My boss wants to grow the company quickly and we have lot of deal flow and we are a small shop by head count. I send him models to review before sending it out to concerned parties, he will ask him to be on zoom and review it along with him. This behavior occurs when he wants me to underwrite and work on closing on another 10 deals in the pipeline.

Same vein as all the people wondering why their firm isn't offering them 10% of the fund upside when they've been working there for six years.

Sometimes I get the feeling that young people have a hard time accepting that they are not the main character in the "game" of life. Not intrinsic to any generation in particular, I just suspect that it's something that as you age, you realize that participation trophies aren't a thing after childhood, that once you're an adult, you aren't the central concern of the people in your life (a.k.a. your parents), and that you don't "deserve" anything.

I know everyone is shitting on him -

但就另ther take, what are you asking for?... Should you have a conversation with your boss saying "Hey, I have important tasks and stuff gets bogged down. We need more headcount to unload these task then list X,Y,Z that took up your day and dont want to do"

Flipping to a new firm probably doesn't solve this type of stuff, but maybe open a conversation with your team to get a new analyst or intern, and explain what task you will give that person very clearly.

I would come at it a different way, the way this comes off is very douchey.

I think the issue is that OPis在这种情况下分析师。他想做大and important things, but that doesn't mean that the stuff he's doing isn't necessary. Yeah, it's more fun to underwrite the deals and negotiate the PSAs... but someone has to file deeds and manage brokers. 90% of this job is boring.

There is no way to say "I don't want to do this, hire someone else to do it" and look good, not as a junior person.

It's in the analyst/associate job description....

"Perform all bullshit tasks, whether important or not when asked. Generally responsible for promptly completing all items manager does not want to, and doing such at times/hours that may be maximally inconvenient for the analyst/associate. Further, the analyst/associate is expected to complete all ad hoc assignments while still completing all normal/regular assignments on time."

I mean, not to pile on (as this may be a troll post...), but what else do you expect to happen?
