Real Estate Interview Help / Update
I'm currently working at a RE private debt fund as a Senior Associate and recently spoke with one of my ex-colleague (VP) who recently joined aREIT. He asked me if I would be interested in joining his investments team and subsequently forwarded my resume to HR.
HR had a conversation with me and scheduled me for a formal interview with my colleague - the VP - and another associate. The interview went well as he said the associate also liked me and he'll try figure out what the rest of the process looks like. This was a response to my thank you email.
A week passed and I had emailed him to have a quick chat to have an update find out if I'm being considered and will be moving forward. He mentioned he is going to recommend me and wants me to meet with his boss as well. Now we're two days into week two and I still have not had an update from HR for the next steps.
Anyone have any idea why it may be taking them so long to get the balling rolling here or where I stand in the process? Any insight is appreciated.

Relax. It's their actual work that's taking them so long to get back to you. If you don't hear from them, follow up when appropriate, but you will hear back from them in due time.

I'd give it some time. They're probably just busy. The same thing happened to me, applied to and was told I was moving forward, did some interviews and it took two weeks to hear back and another week or so to actually get an offer letter.
So waiting this week would take me to two weeks. Follow up Monday or Tuesday if I don't hear back? I just don't want to "bug" him so trying to understand a reasonable time frame before I can follow up
.
I'm gonna share some advice with you because I was looking for a REPE job for nearly a year before I landed the right job.

I was getting to final rounds and losing out because I was way too eager. Long story short, I had a conversation with a friend that really helped me mellow out.
After that convo I went 3 for 3 my next 3 super days after previously going 1 for 5. All I had to do was give way fewer shits.
这样的评论和整体线程太急切。Just follow up in a week or two. If they aren't interested anymore, so what? I promise you there are other opportunities out there that offer just as good - if not better - experience.
Totally agree! My short answer is that usually waiting two weeks and no updates or feedback are not a good sign. But don't care that much. The job market now is white-hot! Go for other opportunities. When you have other interviews going on, you will not give a shit anymore. All you have to do is prepare well, do your best in the interviews, and when finish, keep networking and find other opportunities out there.
Believe me, you will be fine. Don't let this nonresponsive one ruins your plan.
Hiring can take months for off cycle stuff. There isn't a standard time frame. I have spent 4 months and 3 interviews for a position that I was eventually offered a job for 5 weeks after I last spoke with the group. On the other extreme I was once offered a job after a 20 min conversation with a mid level person on the team. There really isn't a rhyme or reason in how long these things take. It comes down to company culture, corporate heirachy, and work demands. For example the teams that need the most help are often the ones who take the longest to get people through the process becuase they are just that busy.
Good point
Honestly, just chill as companies are slow for a variety of reasons (people are traveling, closing a deal, etc).
