Rothschild M&A in NYC top MM firm?
I've done a search, yes, but there's not too much info around here about Rothschild inNYC. I know that theirRXis top-notch. But what about M&A?
Pay, culture, learning experience, exit opps? Strong/best verticals to cover? Could one work at Rothschild 2-3 yrs as an analyst and go into PE? Or will one have to lateral? How do they compare to other topMMs(HL, WB, Stifel,WF,RBC, HW)? I know that they poached some Barclays bankers a couple months back and I may express an interest in that group (consumer retail).

HLcorpfin (not Rx) is just average, not the same level asBaird/ WB /RBC
Definitely not as strong as Rx, but still a strong M&AMMshop.
Exit Ops toPEare okay, but notBB/ EB status. asianracist is probably right thatBaird/ WB are better for exit ops.RBC, on parish. Better thanStifel/HLCorp Fin imho.
Experience seems to be good. Those guys work really hard. Really high caliber people from what I can tell.
I've come across a few guys fromRothschildat upperMMPEfirms, but I don't know how well it actually places.
I will say that the one person I know well fromRothschildwas in the M&A team and hated it. Hated the hours, culture, etc. and moved to what I would call a comparable firm/culture (don't want to out him). From there, he is now inMMPEon the East Coast.
On the plus side, he did say that the training is solid and he thought his modeling skills were stronger than others.

What are some specific things your friend hated about the M&A team at the firm? Across the board, it seemed like the firm loves to emphasize their culture and have people that makeIBtheir careers. I know that analysts are assigned to M&A verticals - does that mean the analysts only interact / work alongside their vertical?

I don't know about interaction, but it wasn't as collegial of an atmosphere for him as the next bank he lateraled to. He said they really grind on the analysts and he was burnt out very quickly. Seemed to do better at the other firm, though the reputation isn't much better.
I've seen Patrick's old posts and I think he admittedly said he couldn't be that helpful. He worked there over a decade ago and in theRXgroup - very different times
They're top 20 (18 to be exact) according to Mergermarket's YTD house league tables in the Americas. I would lump them into the borderline top-tiers ofMMfirms.

Thanks everyone who has responded. I was hoping for some more thoughts from theWSOcommunity, if there are any. I have several other offers and am trying to make an informed decision soon. I don't want this to turn into a post with bank 1 vs. bank 2 in pay/exit opps/culture etc. so I will not be listing what other offers I have. ButRothschildis one of the more intriguing offers so hopefully some of you guys have more insights. Thanks!
