Will bank recind my offer due to arrest warrant in foreign country?

我诅咒up. I was in a country (tier 3) with ongoing political instability, and let's just say, I did something in that country that would result in 10 years imprisonment minimum. Won't go into much, but I was in a government protest that went really bad. I flew back to America after that, but now I hear from family members in said country that the state police have an arrest warrant for me. But the good news is that the U.S. doesn't have an extradition policy with said country, but I'm afraid that the bank may find that out and ask questions. Thoughts?

Ireland isn't a Tier 3 country

Ireland is what people consider a "developed" country and has been for a long time, with strong legal systems and EU integration, plus the IRA decommissioned and stopped activities over 20 years ago. Don't know how anyone could remotely think of it in relation to OP's post.

Thanks for the casual "Ireland & Irish people = terrorism" ignorance though, super common in the US and Canada in my experience and I'm really sick of it, say that to a Muslim and it's (correctly) Islamophobic?

I am currently in vitro. My mom brushed up against a dog. Could bestiality claims prevent me from becoming an MD once born?

If there isn't any extradition policy in place with that country, then I wouldn't be worried.

Usually, in international private law, if you commited a crime in a foreign country and flew away before being arrested, you can be arrested in your native country only if its also a crime in it (double incrimination i.e. both countries have the same crime and in both countries if you skim the law you need to find approximately the same conditions to be found guilty) - So, as it's a political arrest, I assume you're safe.

Regarding your bank, businesses must adhere only to local laws, so if they are recruiting you for a position limited only to the US then they'll only check your US background.

Its amazing that people think the bank could actually find this out. You guys watch too many international crime thrillers.

They can't find this information. If you had an arrest warrant in the US, I'd give them <50% chance of catching it.

Now that this silly concern is dismissed, why don't you tell us more about what happened. Make this thread interesting.

Could be Russia. While I have no idea what OP or others consider 'Tier 3' countries, I would bet Moldova/Albania is lower than 'Tier 3' in most people's opinion.

Russia is giving 10+ year sentences for people who are against the war effort. If OP was one of those guys, I'd applaud him.

It's pretty easy to get an arrest warrant in Iran...it's not like you have to lead a counterinsurgency in order to get arrested

The most an investment bank will do for an intern/analyst is an FBI background check. If your warrant is in a country without an extradition treaty with the US, then it's extremely unlikely you'd be in the FBI database.
