How to prioritize?
This is going to be the typical how to break intoIBpost grad if anyone does not want to read that as a warning but would appreciate any advice.
Graduated in 2021 from an Ivy and went straight intoAM/portfolio management sidefor institutions at aBB. I was never really interested inIBand did not attempt to do anyIBapps/interviews in college and concentrated onAMas I thought I would prefer being a generalist asset allocator as opposed to more specialist/in the weeds style investing inPE/HF/VCetc. After a year and some change in the workforce, my view has shifted. While I still enjoy my job and the clients I work for, I really see the value in that specialization in say PC orPEand enjoy learning about specific strategies. I think long term, 10-15 years out, I would like to be in the seat that I sit in now as a senior investor, but I want to develop the hard skills/specialization. I understand thatAMtoPE/PC type shops is probably not going to happen, so I have networked with some people on theIBside of my bank.
Should I prioritize the technical first for the next three months before really diving in deeper into the networking side. I anticipate regardless of when/if I make the jump I would lose both/start out at as a 2nd year with my prior experience.
