Building a case for promotion
Would love any thoughts or advice on the below. Much appreciated, all.
背景:随着年底的临近,我准备to have to make my case to be promoted (A2A). I work at a small shop (less than 10 employees) so there are not any established promotion timelines. I'm confident that I can build a strong case for promotion. From quality of work product to responsibilities to workload and project management, it is clear that I am performing at the next level.
Question: If my year-end review comes and promotion is not discussed, how do I make my case without it coming off the wrong way? Do I come prepared with a printed document that gives real examples of my performance in each respective category, or do I just come prepared to open this up for discussion and have my facts ready?

If they don't bring it up themselves in the performance review then bring it up in a direct but respectful manner. People in the workplace don't want to tiptoe around things and have to guess if you're hinting at something. You can always say something along the lines of "Would it be appropriate to discuss career progression at this point? And if so, I believe my performance and X,Y,Z would be a good example at why I can take on the increase in title and responsibilities that come along with it". I would say that you shouldn't need a written/printed doc outlining every reason that you should be promoted but rather just have a mental list that you could give exact examples. Most of the time, if they are willing to promote someone they already know that you are a good worker and if they don't already think you are a good worker then you probably won't get promoted anyways. Just keep the conversation respectful and professional while also being confident that you're worth being promoted.
