Waterloo AFM Fellowship?
Hello. I have recently been through the process of applying to Canadian universities for BCom and other business degrees. During the process of researching about Waterloo'sAFM process, I came across this thing called the SAF Fellowship where they choose 5% of incoming AFM students and offer them work terms and pair them with personal mentors from the big 4 or investment banks/boutiques in addition to co-op. While this certainly sounds interesting, I'm wondering if it will have a significant impact on recruitment forIB/Consulting? Coz I already have offers from McGill Desautels, UBC Sauder, Mcmaster Degroote, Western BMOS and Waterloo Arbus (just waiting on Ivey and Queens and Rotman Commerce), and I'm wondering if this Fellowship is worth choosing over my Mcgill Bcom offer? McGill is obviously one of the three target schools forIBand Consulting in Canada but would the benefits of having a personal mentor, course awards and internships in the SAF Fellowship programme outweigh going to McGill for BCom. Will this Fellowship give me an advantage over other target school kids? My ultimate goal isIB/Consulting. There's no post on this anywhere, so any insight helps!

Hi I went to Waterloo, but forCSAFM。我有很多好朋友在AFM。I don't know much about the AFM fellowship, but I can speak on the AFM program as a whole. I think the AFM program has a good prestige and name, almost comparable to the big 3 target schools you were talking about ( I am assuming we are talking about UWO Ivey, Queens Smith and McGill). Most people in AFM end up working in the big four or one of the big 5 banks for consulting/accounting/finance. But I also personally know a lot of people who broke into CIB from AFM. The good thing about going to Waterloo is the 6 co-op terms as opposed to the 3 summer internships you would have at a traditional school. The 6 co-op terms are sandwiched between school terms within the year, so actually recruiting for consulting or CIB internships might be a bit easier as you are not always compete with everyone for summer positions. If your best option is McGill and you don't hear back from UWO Ivey or Queens, I would definitely consider AFM at UW.
Tldr The fellowship might or might not, but the 6 co-op terms and off cycle co-ops might help with getting consulting/CIB internship. AFM is a good program and I know a bunch of people who have landed at consulting/CIB roles after AFM.
Hey. Thank you for the reply. I just got my Ivey acceptance yesterday, so that's all sorted. However, AFM does sound like a really strong programme including the fellowship!
