Let me join this thread. A little bit different position - entry level global macro, small experienced team, about 2bn. My background: somewhat quantitative but not phD, in the role description they didn't go into that much detail but want good coding and math. Any tips for the interview? Thanks!
I guess since this is an entry level, some tradepitchis nice to have to show interest but probably they might want to check more my technical skills first.

...what will you be doing? Entry level encompasses a broad range of jobs. I work for a fund of the type you describe but never really interviewed for an entry level position.
To clarify the initial inquiry - what is the general structure/career progression like at global macro funds? What kind ofinterview questions would youask a lower level candidate?
Very few hire entry level, especially not in this environment. If so entry point would prop. be research orientated.
first round interviews tend to be mostly fit based, informal.
What should you focus on for research el?
Moore and Paulson were hiring kids from my school last year.

Paulson hired a kid straight out of yale undergrad in 2009. He's now an associate. But I imagine that was pretty rare.
I work at a Global Macro fund and would be happy to assist you, but first clarify what is the actual position. I say that because "Entry Level" doesn't really exist in this arena. You must come on with some sort of on the job experience.

When I say on the job experience I mean you were actually a valuable member of a team and receiving a pay check. You will need a minimum of 3 years to even receive a worth while glance. Research or Trade? Do what your good at, there isn't some cookie cutter mold.
That's what I figured. Thought I'd give it a shot since people were mentioning some funds right after undergrad. Thanks for the advice.
Do you work at one of the large, well-known macro funds? Is this just the policy for your fund?

No I didnt. I started in the back-office. I was also a trading assistant for a PM at a smaller (non-macro) fund earlier in my career. It was absolutely great experience and led to everything that came after it. By the time I moved into the "macro World" I was already kind of a Sr Strategist, having worked on a bank prop desk for a few years in between the ops stuff and that job.
Remember, when they say "tell me a joke", all you gotta say is "advantage plus"

usually you contribute to the community and then we help you out, but It'sjust an informational interviewbro! The guy will ask how he can help you (which you should be upfront about) and go on from there.
