Company-level supply chain data - what do you use?

These past few years have forced anyone covering companies that move physical goods to be hyper-focused on supply chain data. At our firm, I've started spearheading a new initiative focused on aggregating company-specific supply chain data as it pertains to individual lots of inventory (overkill? maybe...but a very fun challenge). This is to help us monitor the inventory/supply chain statuses of several private companies we're engaged with and validate information provided by the company against what is publicly available (or at least available via alt data sources).

What are some of the best sources of information you've found for tracking the status of a private company's supply chain and inventory? Has anyone had any luck with tracking individual lots of inventory from China to the US? I know you can pull Bill of Lading information and the like, but it'd be great to hear how people are approaching this. The dream is to track individual units of inventory through the entire supply chain as this would provide some great insights for forecasting purposes.

Also, if anyone wants to kill a few minutes check out importyeti.com. This is the type of data that is out there. The difficult part is aggregating/cleaning the data and then obtaining it in near real-time.
