Hey,
I have a little meeting with an associate tomorrow at a big Canadian bank...just an information type meeting. I imagine he probably works in a suit but I am not sure. I am thinking I shouldnt go full-out formal with suit/tie, instead I plan on going with just a nice shirt and (maybe) tie. Is this too casual? How will he perceive me? BTW, not sure if it makes a difference, he is pretty young (23 I think).

why would you go to a canadian bank anyway? wear a suit. better safe than sorry. you'll wear a suit to interviews and the interviewers wont have them on. remember, every interaction is an interview so you do the math.

If you are meeting at his office I would wear a suit. If you are just meeting for lunch, then maybe a dress shirt and some slacks would be okay, but better to be safe than sorry like x35 said.

Well, if you were meeting me, I wouldn't care to be honest. Though in Canada it might be of course different. Anyway it's much more important what you will say and ask.
First time I met with an associate for what you're doing, I was dressed like a total schlub - polo shirt tucked into unironed khakis, unshaved, loafer driving shoes. At the end of our (very helpful) meeting on his floor, he kindly recommended that I ALWAYS wear a suit and tie (i.e. interview outfit) for ANY kind of meeting, informational or otherwise.
For every subsequentinformational interview, I was grossly overdressed, but when my contact asked me if I'd dressed up for him/her, I just said that I'd had another meeting earlier that day.
