Genstar vs apax

Thoughts on which offer you would take and key considerations? Would like opinion of people in industry and not prospects (sorry)

if you're going to tout your firm so much with blank statements of "Apax is literally so good you need to take it" please at least provide some context / rationale why. Genstar is a top-tier fund with great returns & culture, so do please elaborate why the answer is so clear to you

Go with your desired location (Genstar - SF / Apax - NYC). Both are great firms and the last few vintages have produced good / great returns.

bumping this question - would love to get some thoughts on this ... seems like Genstar is highly underrated, hugeaum, and crazy lean...

Apax. It's a megafund,NYC, more respected in the industry, better business school opportunities, history, pedigree, global reach.

Always helps to have theMFlogo on your resume.

Agree with the comments above -

Pros of Apax: larger, more established, more "prestigious"

Pros of Genstar: up-and-coming, lean but anecdotally better culture, probably better returns

Would go Apax but Genstar is obviously a super solid option

I don't care about location tbh

I understand Genstar has seen a lot of success in recent years but Apax still seems like the straightforward choice here, assuming you get into an industry group you want. I would be surprised to learn if more than 10% of candidates with both offers would choose Genstar.
