Insurance Underwriter Career Path
My younger brother is graduating college in May. He tried his best at banking recruitment in the fall, but ultimately fell short of landing an offer.
The offer he eventually took was for an Associate Underwriting program at Starr Insurance Companies.
I'm wondering what the potential career opportunities could be for someone who starts in underwriting, as he expressed to me, he still wants to get into banking eventually.
I think underwiring could be a great first job, especially at a large company that has a good training program. The group he's getting into is Energy, so I think after 2 years it wouldn't be impossible for him to try to network his way into a banking position.
Thoughts on this? Could he possibly get stuck in insurance? Does anyone have experience moving from underwriting to banking?

You're welcome.
Why not just keep networking with banks right now instead of waiting two years? There's a hiring spree like no other and who knows how it will look in two years. He's technically still a fresh grad, so he might as well network with people and apply to An1 roles/ lateral positions. He can even spin his story and focus onFIGand energy, given his name insurance and energy coverage.
If I were him, I would do the underwriting for six months. Three months do the role and network, three months fully apply to jobs and get interviews. By 2023, he could be in a new seat.
