Luxury watches
Let's talk watches. Just bought an IWC after debating between that and an Omega. What watches do y'all have and do you actually wear them or treat them as investments?

I've always been more of a dress watch person. My two most worn watches are Cartier Tank Louis XL and my JLC Ultra Thin Moon.
nice, love the jlc ultra thin moon and jlc in general
thinking of picking up the ultra thin moon or master chronograph myself
Got the MUT M, and it's a great watch. Getting quite a few compliments on it. Reverso is also a sweet one
I'm a big fan of sporty watches . I own a black sub and have a Batman next on my list. Also a big fan of speedmasters
Omega Speedmaster and Nomos Tangente Automatik
Good man. Definitely prefer IWC to Omega (I own watches from both brands)
What ref did you get?
Picked up a Portuguiser Automatic (IW500712). Friend has an Omega speedy that I really liked, but I had my eyes set on an IWC. What refs do you have from each?
Excellent choice! I certainly wouldn't mind adding that one to the collection myself!!
the speedy is definitely a great piece as well!
i currently own these from IWC: the 3717-2, the Mark XVI and last but not least the 3714-82.
and the Omega Sea Master Planet Ocean (2210.50.00)

I wear all of mine. My main watch right now is a Lange & Sohne Zeitwerk with the updated movement that fixed the fractional precocking issue. It's actually killed my want for other watches and I used to be a hardcore watchwhore.
Love vintage and will probably dive back in at some point but it's hard to buy vintage when you can't travel and see the watches in person... Would love a no-date vintage sub but haven't found the right one.
The Zeitwerk is a solid BDE watch.
Where do you find your vintage watches? Got any sites you recommend?
I like it because nobody knows what Lange is unless they are watch nerds. I was very uncomfortable wearing Rolex/APbecause there is too big a douchebag association with those two. They also fail to provide much horological bang for buck - IMO.
Vintage... I have a few dealers I like depending on city. Burdeens has some pieces from time to time that are great. They are in Chicago. Guys at Watchbox/Govberg are good to deal with too.
Holy shit had never heard of that watch and just looked it up and saw the price...
Rolex Daytona 116520. Random serial with blue lume and updated clasp. Limited last series run before the flip to ceramic.
I really like the Patek GC ref 5159R-001, but my problem is
You are a classy man. Dream watch for me, but I don't have $100K to throw around unfortunately.
That's what I went with as my bonus gift last year, but already eyeing other watches. It's a problem.
Got myself a Tudor Black Bay 58 during bonus season. Fast forward to today and still not feeling any buyer's remorse. Can be dressed up or down, comes across as both sporty and formal.
I've got a problem with most high-end watches. They either are massive 50+mmgaudy things or fashion pieces that signal almost as badly as putting "MBA" after your name on your business card. I'm mostly buy-side and I normally split time between a SKX009 and a Nezumi Voiture. I've got a 60s Seamaster, but it's pre sapphire glass and Omega wants almost a grand just to service it. I'm scared to wear it in the first place, and it looks horrible on the elastic metal band. I'd swap the strap, but it's essentially new in box, (I have the cardboard the clamshell came in) and I just can't bring myself to do that.
I switch between my analyst watch, a Longines presence, and my current, an omega seamaster aqua terra with a graphite face. I wear both every day and even out to restaurants, clubs, work, hamptons, etc. because to me a watch sitting in a case is a waste of money unless you go and put some mileage on it. Unless you're talking patek /VCetc
omega seamaster is the best since IWC is very big pilot watch
GMT Master II 116710LN and Gold/Gold day-date. Got the GMT before it was discontinued and the mad rush for stainless steel rolex to celebrate my first bonus, got the presi' recently to celebrate first bonus at a new firm. I am done with watch purchases for a while. What I will recommend; instead of being in between price points, just wait another year or so and get what you really want.
Yep - that's my goal now. Got my IWC, but planning to save up and get something a lot nicer down the road.
(I'm a girl)
Rolex silver/gold date-just, with white dial for day-to-day wear.
Rolex date-just Silver/gold, with black dial and diamonds for evening wear. Diamonds dot on dial only.
Hermes H watch in gold with brown leather strap for summer casual events.(Really don't recommend this watch. Leather strap always needs replacing and costs £400 each time.)
Raymond Weil simple silver chain watch if I am going to an area/ event where I don't want to draw any attention to myself. (Harrods reduce these massively on the last day of the sale)
Looking to add a Cartier tank Gold with a Brown leather strap to replace my Hermes watch... I feel like Hermes is now going down the road of becoming uniform for all the Insta chavs everywhere.
What I never accounted for with the Rolexes is the maintenance and service costs. I'm glad that I bought simple, entry-level inconspicuous pieces that at least I can use and get my money's worth out of it because of these dumbass charges. You can guarantee they will invariably find something wrong with your watch when you hand it in for service.
Also I absolutely hate with a passion the Apple Watch – just wanted to throw that out there.
我主要是我们ar a Ulysse Nardin Dual Time to work. Pretty low key and for people into watches, it is a good conversation starter. Also have some gold pieces from Glashutte Original and a couple steel Rolexes.
作为一个干的家伙,我喜欢机械,和佤邦tches are arguably better money sinks than a nice car. Heck with the steel craze these days I actually made money (on paper at least).
What rolex's you got?
114060, 116610LV, 116613LB and 126710BLRO
GO is awesome value for money. I had a panomatic lunar at the same time as a Lange 1 and would take the GO every time. Dial side was just as nice and the date discs not being "stacked" looks way nicer. The SeaQ is completely underrated when it comes to divers...
ωSpeedmaster Moonwatch和波美比重计& Mercer Clifton are the two I currently have. Definitely want a rolex, most likely a GMT. Might buy an older one as an introduction to the family. Also been eyeing Nomos a lot recently.
Planning to pick up a grand seiko soon.
Grand Seiko needs a new logo. I can't take them serious with a logo that looks like something you'd see at Disney World.
1995 Tudor Oyster Prince Date. Wear it everyday.
Out of curiosity, what is appeal around Tudor? Nothing against them but I've always seen them as kind of chunky and cheaper rolex's. Nothing wrong with spending less money on a watch, that's not my point, but I feel like a new Tudor could allow you a better brand watch which is CPO and has a better movement/design.
我同意新的并不吸引我would never buy one of these models (only vintage). The older ones look exactly like their rolex counterparts (oystercase, dials, etc.) only difference is the ETA movement and branding. Some of the older ones use rolex crowns and bracelets. They are also priced ~50% less than vintage rolex. My tudor is essentially an oysterdate with an ETA.
